Energy Management

Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, HMD Biomedical develops and manufactures GlucoLeader blood glucose monitoring systems. Because medical device production requires stable environmental control and reliable process quality, the company has focused on practical energy-saving measures that reduce consumption without affecting regulatory compliance or product performance.

From 2022 to 2024, HMD improved lighting efficiency, optimized compressed air operations, and upgraded HVAC controls in production and warehouse areas. Energy performance is reviewed by facility, manufacturing, and quality teams, with improvement actions tracked as part of annual operational management.

GHG Emissions

HMD Biomedical tracks Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions across its main operating site. Direct emissions mainly come from backup power equipment and a limited number of business vehicles, while purchased electricity remains the primary emissions source.

As power consumption decreased and monitoring became more systematic, total emissions declined over the three-year period. Monthly review of utility data helps identify unusual trends early and supports future planning for additional reduction measures.

Waste Management

Waste generated from HMD's operations mainly includes packaging offcuts, general industrial waste, and small volumes of laboratory-related waste. The company emphasizes source reduction through process yield improvement, better material control, and packaging optimization.

• Improved production yield to lower scrap and retest-related material loss.
• Expanded segregation of recyclable materials in office and production areas.
• Maintained documented handling procedures for laboratory and maintenance waste streams.

Green Procurement

Environmental considerations are gradually being integrated into supplier evaluation for key materials, electronic components, and packaging. HMD gives preference, where feasible, to suppliers that can demonstrate regulatory compliance, responsible material management, and lower-impact packaging solutions.

In 2024, the share of green procurement increased further as more suppliers completed environmental screening. This approach supports product quality expectations under ISO 13485, ISO 9001, CE, MDSAP, and FDA 510(k) requirements while strengthening sustainability performance.
